The Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) has been producing The Vienna Philharmonic since 1989. The Philharmoniker is the most successful investment coin of European origin.
The front side features the pipe organ from Golden Hall in the Musikverein (the home concert hall of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra) together with the German words "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria). The reverse of the coin shows instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, including the Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, and four violins centered on a cello. Both designs were produced in 1989 by the chief engraver of the Austrian Mint, Thomas Pesendorfer.
